24 Portraits of Chinese women
It is one large piece of multiple panel portraits made up of 24 separate canvases, each is 40 X 50 cm.
Through a strong feeling of compassion and obligation I aim to work with a group of selected photographs of Chinese women, from 1899 to the present by experimenting and investigating the appropriation of old black and white photographs.
This serves somewhat as a metaphor for the historical, cultural and political plight of Chinese women’s identity in China’s traditionally male – dominated society, as well as asking the question when will Chinese women’s fight for gender equality, freedom and independence be achieved?
